Kidney Transplant

Kidney Transplant

A person with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) receiving kidney transplantation is the treatment of choice. People who have received a kidney transplant usually survive longer and have a better quality of life. A kidney transplant may come from a live donor or a cadaveric donor. In order to be considered for a kidney transplant, a person must receive a referral. Typically, a social worker from the dialysis center assists the patients in initiating a referral. The patient will be required to complete a battery of tests as required by the transplant program. A person’s overall health status is thoroughly evaluated to determine whether they are a good candidate for a transplant.
